Squoze

I want to make 'squoze' a real word.  As in, "I squoze lemon on my nachos for the diced avocado and it gave the whole dish a delightful little lift."  Which I did actually do, and I recommend it.

Super Post

This blog thing hasn't been going very well since I started it.  You see, I got sick and well, I couldn't taste anything for about two weeks.  Then, um, it snowed.  And I ran out of food?  No, that's a lie.  I actually made lots of food while stuck in the house, but I didn't take pictures of a lot of it.  That food was personal therapy, I think.  Cabin fever makes me cuh-razy!   I'll revisit those recipes later, promise.

So to make up for it, today's first real post ever will be a Super Post, wherein we will talk about the Super Bowl!!

Ages ago, I know... And I have no interest in the game.  It's all about the food.

The Super Bowl took place during the Snowpocalypse of 2010, or what I like to call, SnOMG!  Therefore we were all stuck inside under 2 feet of snow and a plow would never reach us (until over a week and another snow storm later).  Unfortunately, *somebody* forgot the potato rolls for sliders.

Wait, sliders?  Are they southern? Are they Philippine?  Well, no but they are American!  And small!

I got the idea to make sliders from Kenny Shopsin, a.k.a. the inspiration for Seinfeld's Soup Nazi.  The recipe is here.  Not only do I recommend this recipe, I recommend his book Eat Me, as well as the documentary I Like Killing Flies.

So the recipe calls for potato rolls that I did not have.  But I did have left over mashed potatoes and flour and yeast and yes, I got all pioneery and made my own bread.  I just followed this recipe except I had to use whole wheat white flour because I was out of all purpose and bread flour.  Roughin' it in the ol'...east.  Upside, they were healthier! Great, because after stuffing them with juicy beef burgers and cheese, we all needed a little fiber.

I did learn that during a snowstorm, or if you live in a freezer of a house like I do, setting your dough on a heating pad under the covers in your bed while you sit next to it and read food blogs is a perfect way to get your dough to rise in no time.

And here they are, in all their greasy homemade glory. They were so good and sooo filling.  I'll make them again, only next time I'll probably just buy some potato rolls and snuggle up with something other than millions of microorganisms farting in my bed.
